Regular viewers of Games Done Quick are probably familiar with Peanut Butter the dog, a Shiba Inu who has been trained by his owner, JSR_, to play older video games in return for treats and praise. For a canine, Peanut Butter's gaming skills are impressive even though he's largely following his owner's lead. But in this year's Summer Games Done Quick, Peanut Butter may have delivered the highlight of the annual event by hitting a walk-off home run to win the game.
Peanut Butter was playing the SNES classic, Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball, in a game that was tied 3-3 in extra innings. And at just under 30 minutes into the game, Peanut Butter nailed a two-run homer to win with a 5-3 score. The clip posted above only features Peanut Butter's last-second heroics. His entire game is featured in the video below.
Earlier this year, GameSpot interviewed JSR_ in order to get some insight on how Peanut Butter became perhaps one of the first video-game-playing dogs. It took months of training, but Peanut Butter was a dedicated learner and a very good boy throughout the process.
"Within the first day of training, he could press the button on command," recalled JSR_ . "What was hard was getting him to not only be attentive for 20-25 minutes without stopping, but to press the button down and hold it until I released him."
Peanut Butter's time with Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball was just one of this year's Summer Games Done Quick charitable speed runs, which has already raised over $1 million for Doctors Without Borders. But we'd be surprised if any gaming moment at this year's event tops seeing Peanut Butter hit that game-winning home run.
