This year's Super Bowl halftime show has Bad Bunny as a headliner, but could Scorbunny appear in the commercials? The Pokemon Company announced that a "special video" will air during the game as part of the franchise's 30th anniversary celebration.
A brief teaser of the commercial shows a CGI Jigglypuff waiting around in a backstage room. Super Bowl LX pits the Seattle Seahawks against the New England Patriots and airs on Sunday, February 8.
It's unlikely that the TV spot will include any new information about upcoming Pokemon video games, with an official press release emphasizing that the ad will highlight the IP's "growing audience of diverse, global and multigenerational fans across three decades."
"As we look to the next 30 years and beyond, we invite Trainers to join in celebrating this landmark milestone, starting with Super Bowl LX, where they’ll see themselves and their fandom reflected in unexpected ways," The Pokemon Company International president Kenji Okubo said in the statement.
If we had to guess, the "unexpected ways" the fandom is reflected will be in the form of live-action actors throwing Poke Balls around. Ten years ago, The Pokemon Company put out a 30-second Super Bowl ad for Pokemon's 20th anniversary that was pretty much just that.
The Pokemon Company is celebrating the milestone 30th anniversary in several ways, including a Pokemon theme park in Tokyo that brings Kanto to life. We can also expect a Pokemon Day stream later this month on February 27--on the video game side, we can hope for more information on the upcoming Pokemon Champions, and if we're lucky, a glimpse at a new generation.
