Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Shadows launched on March 20, and it got off to a hot start in the US. The game was the best-selling title overall in the US during its launch week, according to analyst Mat Piscatella of Circana. This counts sales through March 22, so Shadows achieved this after only three days.
Piscatella added that, after three days of sales, Shadows is already one of the top five best-selling games of 2025 in the US based on dollars. In terms of a comparison, Piscatella pointed out that only Capcom's Monster Hunter: Wilds had a better first week in terms of dollar sales in 2025 so far.
Wilds is the No. 1 best-selling game of 2025 so far in the US. March's complete sales data for the US will be published by Circana on April 23, at which point we will have a better picture of how Shadows sold in March and how it compares to other titles in the market.
Worldwide, Shadows has reached more than three million players so far. Shadows had the second-highest day-one sales revenue for any Assassin's Creed game, only trailing Valhalla. Shadows did beat Valhalla by one measurement, though, setting a record for the most day-one digital revenue on the PlayStation Store for the Assassin's Creed franchise.
Shadows was released just prior to Ubisoft's major announcement that it had created a new subsidiary that will focus on growing three main franchises: Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six. Ubisoft's announcement of this new entity, which came by way of a financing deal with Tencent, came with many unanswered questions, including whether or not there could be layoffs or studio closures at the company as a result. Ubisoft said it will have more announcements to make in due course.
