Battlefield 6 producer Alexia Christofi has reacted to the conversation surrounding the game's new map releases, saying she understands people want more maps, and to have them arrive more frequently, but that is not going to happen. The studio is focusing on releasing high-quality maps, and that takes time.
"We're releasing on a cadence where we feel the maps are up to quality and we're happy with how they play, the variety they give to the players," she told GamesBeat (via GamesRadar). "There are worlds in which we release hundreds of maps, but they're not fun. We never want to do that. We have to make sure that the maps feel good to play, that they're fun to play."
Battlefield Studios has pledged to release two new Battlefield 6 maps per season. This is a slower pace than that of Battlefield 4, a game that the studio took inspiration from for Battlefield 6. Taking inspiration from that game never meant that Battlefield Studios was going to copy its cadence for new maps in Battlefield 6, though.
Battlefield 4 launched with 10 maps (compared to nine for Battlefield 6), and added 22 new maps after its first year. With two new maps promised for each new Battlefield 6 season, the game isn't expected to have the same volume of post-release maps compared to Battlefield 4 (and Battlefield Studios never said it would).
In any event, Christofi went on to say, "I completely empathize with players when they want more maps and more content. They talk about that because they're passionate about the game, passionate about the franchise."
At the same time, Christofi pointed out that the team working on Battlefield 6 is "of a certain size," so the aim is to release high-quality maps, even if it takes more time and results in Battlefield 6 having fewer post-release maps than past games. "We don't want to sacrifice quality," she said.
Before launch, EA CEO Andrew Wilson said Battlefield 6 would have a "tremendous live-service" approach, but he never spelled out specifically what this would mean or amount to.
Speaking to GameSpot, Christofi also addressed the call for more maps, and to have them release faster. She said, "We would love to create way more maps," but time and resources are affecting those plans.
Battlefield 6 had a gigantic launch in 2025 and finished the year as the No. 1 best-selling game in the US. It's still selling well in 2026, and is the year's No. 5 best-selling game so far.
In other news, Battlefield 6 is free for all Game Pass members right now, just in time to try out some of the new Season 2 content, including the new map Contaminated.
