Capcom Reveals How It Will Use GenAI Art In Its Games: It Won't

Capcom management has explained how the company will utilize generative AI content in its games going forward, and the answer is that it will not do so.

During a shareholder meeting transcribed by Automaton, Capcom said, "Our company will not be implementing any AI-generated assets into our video game content."

Instead, Capcom will look to "actively utilize" AI technologies to help the process of making games become more efficient, which is what many other developers have also said.

"That is why we are currently testing out various methods of usage across our departments, including graphics, sound, and programming," Capcom said.

Capcom's Resident Evil Requiem was one of the centerpieces of Nvidia's new AI-powered DLSS 5 showcase that drew a lot of ire for "yassifying" character's faces, including Grace Ashcroft's.

Capcom's Jun Takeuchi, meanwhile, said, "DLSS 5 represents another important step in pushing visual fidelity forward, helping players become even more immersed in the world of Resident Evil."

In other recent news about AI in games, developer Pearl Abyss recently acknowledged and apologized for using AI-generated art assets in Crimson Desert, promising to eliminate the assets in a future update. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which won more Game of the Year awards than any other game in history, also featured AI art assets in the game that were not meant to be there.
