Diablo 4 will receive three more seasons in 2025, ones that will introduce new seasonal powers and improvements to endgame activities like Nightmare dungeons and the Infernal Hordes.
Details about what's coming later this year for Blizzard's ARPG come via a newly released 2025 roadmap that outlines what fans can expect in the coming "Year of Hatred," and includes two "IP collab" crossover events. The game's next season, Belial's Return, is already known, and will see the return of the Lord of Lies along with a major rework of Diablo 4's endgame Lair Boss system.
A preview of what to expect in Diablo 4 this year.
It's what comes after Belial's Return that is new. Diablo 4 Season 9, starting in July and running through September, will be Sins of the Horadrim. It will introduce seasonal powers, new Nightmare dungeon activities, and keyboard and mouse support for those on consoles. The following season, Infernal Chaos, will bring updates to the game's roguelike Infernal Hordes endgame activity while additionally granting players new Chaos Powers to experiment with. The game's upcoming seasons will continue the trend of allowing players to earn a new gold and material-collecting pet through each seasonal journey, something Blizzard started with Diablo 4 Season 7.
As for the IP collabs Blizzard is teasing, it's hard to guess what they might be. One will come as part of Season 8 sometime in the next few months while the other will be introduced as part of Season 10 between September and December. Diablo 4 crossed over with Blizzard's World of Warcraft last year in the form of various cosmetic armor sets and even a free mount bundle, but that made some sense since they are both fantasy IPs and it wasn't even the first time WoW items have appeared in the world of Diablo. It remains to be seen what other fantasy IP (or maybe even non-fantasy IP) may work well within the dark, gothic world of Sanctuary, but Blizzard said in a blog post released alongside the roadmap that the collabs will be with "universes" that mesh well with Diablo's "dark themes."
Blizzard additionally stated in its roadmap blog post that core updates will be coming to both the game's battle pass and its seasonal journey system to make them "more rewarding," but didn't elaborate on what those updates might look like.
Though Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson had already said a new expansion for Diablo 4 wouldn't be coming in 2025 (walking back an earlier commitment to annual expansions), this roadmap confirms it by specifically stating a new expansion is slated for 2026. Also slated for 2026 is a new ranking system and leaderboard, as well as something else Blizzard is teasing by having its entry on the roadmap engulfed in flame. An expansion is likely a new class, but fans will have to wait for more official details as 2026 draws closer.
Diablo 4 Season 8 was recently delayed two weeks and will now start on April 29. Fergusson said the delay came from the need to "serve the game, not the plan." When Season 8 does arrive, it will be more challenging and slower than Season 7, with Blizzard decreasing XP gains at lower levels and increasing the game's Torment difficulties to make it so players can't hit max level and reach the highest difficulty, Torment 4, in a single weekend of play.
