Diablo 4 Will Let Players Buy Cosmetics With Gold For 2-Year Anniversary

Diablo 4 is turning two, and Blizzard is celebrating by letting players spend their mountains of unused gold on new cosmetics.

From June 3-17, a new Anniversary Reliquary event will be live, and unlike the game's recently overhauled seasonal battle pass (now called Reliquaries) or recent Berserk crossover, it won't require players to grind out a special currency or earn unlock tokens. Instead, players can simply use their gold to buy these cosmetics--a rarity in Diablo 4 where cosmetics are almost exclusively earned from dropped items, gained through reputation reward tracks, or purchased with Platinum, the game's premium currency, from the in-game shop.

As for the cosmetics, there will be a two-handed sword, polearm, bow, and one-handed sword available, as well as the Sunflame Lantern and Burning Dawn Banner mount trophies. Unlocking all of the cosmetics will grant players one final reward in the form of the Burning Dawn mount armor.

In addition to the Anniversary Reliquary, the Mother's Blessing XP and gold buff event from previous years will return, this time with an additional bonus. Alongside 35% additional XP and 50% more gold for the duration of the event, players will also earn an additional Collection of Chaos Whisper Cache when turning in Grim Favors, netting them even more items and materials.

Being able to buy cosmetics with gold is a welcome addition, and hopefully one Blizzard will utilize more in the future. Most players (unless they are spending millions upon millions rerolling Masterwork affixes) likely have piles of gold just sitting around, so giving them something to actually use all that money on seems like a no-brainer.

Diablo 4 is currently in the middle of its eighth season, which overhauled the game's endgame boss loop. Set to begin on July 1, Season 9 will allow players to craft their own spells, including one particularly powerful teleport spell players are hoping doesn't get nerfed. As for Diablo 4's second expansion, that will launch in 2026.
