Elden Ring Rightreign, the standalone multiplayer spin-off of the popular RPG, is out now and it's already putting up impressive stats. On Steam, the game reached more than 300,000 peak concurrent users right after launch. It reached 315,593 players to become one of the top five most popular games on Steam based on player count, only surpassed by free-to-play games PUBG, Dota 2, and Counter-Strike 2.
Nightreign is also the No. 1 best-selling game right now on Steam. Player data for Xbox and PlayStation is unknown, but the game has reached reached 2 million players so far overall.
It's possible Neightreign isn't done climbing, as player counts historically peak on weekends as people have more free time for their hobbies. We'll report back with a new peak concurrent count if Nightreign breaks its current record of 313,593. The record was actually achieved on May 29, which is when the game began its global rollout.
Elden Ring itself has reached 30 million players and fans had been clamoring for more, so it's not a huge surprise to see Nightreign get off to a solid start. An Elden Ring movie from Alex Garland is in the works, with an actor from Warfare reportedly set for a main role.
GameSpot's Elden Ring Nightreign review scored the game a 9/10, with reviewer Richard Wakeling writing, "Elden Ring Nightreign successfully condenses the Elden Ring experience, cramming challenging combat, exploration, worldbuilding, and character development into a fast-paced and thrilling multiplayer game."
Some have taken issue with how Nightreign does not support two-player co-op, but instead is playable solo or with groups of three. Two-player co-op was overlooked in development, and From Software apologized; it could come to the game in a post-launch update.
If you're just getting started with Nightreign, be sure to consult GameSpot's Nightreign guides hub, in which we discuss top tips to know, how multiplayer works, and how to unlock all the skins, among other things.
