Everything New In The Terraria 1.4.5 Bigger And Bolder Update

Terraria's Bigger and Bolder update, or Terraria 1.4.5, has been in the works for around three long years. Developer Re-Logic claims it's the final update, but given its track record of claiming the same for previous updates, it would come as no surprise if there are additional adjustments to the sandbox game in the future. The Terraria 1.4.5 update is out today, January 27.

Alongside Dead Cells and Palworld crossovers, there are a host of other improvements including a crafting menu overhaul, new boulders, new boss weapons, and more.

Boulder items

There are several new Boulders introduced in Terraria 1.4.5. One Boulder appears to fall upwards, and Boulder Rain will cause Boulders to fall from the sky during thunderstorms. A Rainbow Boulder can be found in secret seeds combined with Celebrationmk10--the secret birthday world seed. When activated it will bounce between ores and chests while passing through blocks and not hurting the player. A Poo Boulder, because why not? A Boulder covered in Magma will also be added alongside a Boulder pet.

New entities

Several slime variant enemies that can carry items. The item inside the slime's body affects its behavior. They are more common in the skyblock seed. There are several slime variants including:

  • Cloud Slime - Jumps high and carries a Cloud Block
  • Dirt Slime - Carries a Dirt Block
  • Granite Slime - Spawns underground and carries a Granite Block
  • Slush Slime - Spiked variant that glows in the dark, spawns in the ice biome, and carries a Slush Block
  • Moonglow Slime - Emits light and plants herbs
  • Dart Trap Slime - Carries a Dart Trap and shoots darts at the player

Alongside these slimes there are other new entities, including some from Palworld:

  • Pufferfish enemy
  • Orca, returning from the 3DS version
  • Summonable Palworld Digtoise that can mine through blocks
  • Palworld Cattiva
  • Palworld Foxparks
  • Pal Metal Armor

The only other addition is a new Seeds menu, which can be used to mix different seeds together. Some seed combinations will trigger additional changes such as turning the player into a vampire, replacing ocean water with Shimmer, or heavy rain causing floods.

It's unclear yet how these huge changes will affect the best Terraria weapons, best Terraria accessories, or other elements of the game. One thing's for sure: Sandbox fans are eating good with this update.
