With Tarkir: Dragonstorm now available, Magic: The Gathering's community is turning its attention to the game's next major collaboration: the Final Fantasy set, which launches on June 13. Today, Wizards of the Coast announced that MagicCon: Vegas--which takes place one week later, June 20-22--will heavily feature Square Enix's RPG franchise, with panels and a special promo card included in the festivities.
The event will be highlighted by the Making of Magic: The Gathering: Final Fantasy panel, which will be hosted by Ben Starr, the voice behind Final Fantasy XVI hero Clive Rosfield. The panel will discuss the design process behind the set and features four of the collaboration's key designers:
The event will also feature "recreations of some iconic Final Fantasy settings" according to the official Magic news post, with Midgar being specifically mentioned as one of the exhibits. Also, everyone who attends MagicCon: Vegas will receive a free Torgal, Clive's Companion promo card--which is a reprint of another Magic card, Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful, that features Clive's adorable doggo from FFXVI.
The Final Fantasy expansion will also be the focus of a two-hour showcase panel at PAX East 2025 on May 10, which will preview "cards drawn from every mainline Final Fantasy game" according to the panel's official listing. The PAX East panel will feature the same five guests mentioned above, though All Elite Wrestling's Kenny Omega has announced he'll be appearing at the PAX East panel as well.
Magic: The Gathering - Final Fantasy launches June 13 in local game stores and big box retailers. Prerelease events will take place beginning June 6 at local game stores.
