French independent game studio Coven has announced its second title, Micromega. Based on the works of acclaimed artist Mani, the game tasks players with solving physics-based puzzles in a decaying, monochromatic world. According to the game's press release, "scale, motion, and observation are key to progression." The studio also shared Micromega's first trailer, which can be viewed below.
Based on the trailer, it seems like Micromega will be an atmospheric adventure, with minimalist ambient music accompanying the small sphere as players roll it across series of floating platforms, debris, and other obstacles. Though the puzzles will be fairly straightforward to begin, 30 levels of escalating difficulty are currently planned for the game, with hidden paths and collectibles offering up even greater challenges. All of the game's environments are hand-drawn by Mani, who also serves as the game's director.
"Every stage of this vertical-scrolling adventure is a delicate dance of physics and strategy, where peculiar creatures hold the key to the ascent," Micromega's Steam page reads. "Each plays a role, but at a different scale, working together to shift the world and free the Sphere’s path to the unknown... Even the smallest push can set massive change in motion. This world obeys its own delicate physics, observing these interactions is key to progress."
Micromega is the second title from Coven. Its debut game, Masters of Light, is still in development as well. However, whereas Master of Light is VR title and requires headset and a slightly more powerful computer to run it, Micromega's minimum specs make it appealing to those with more modest PCs.
Micromega does not currently have a set release date. However, those interested can wish list the game on Steam. Below are more images of the upcoming game that showcase more of its puzzles and surreal environments:
