Helldivers 2 Could Be Getting A Roguelite Mode

Helldivers 2 has been one of the big live service success stories of 2025, but there may be a new way to play the multiplayer title in the future. Arrowhead Game Studios CCO and Helldivers 2 creative director Johan Pilestedt has revealed that there is a prototype version of a roguelite mode, and he hinted that it brings some big changes to the game.

Pilestedt shared the news while replying to a message on social media, adding that "It changes the game fundamentally!"

Hey! We have a prototype of a rogue-lite mode - it changes the game fundementally!

It's currently unclear what the roguelite version of Helldivers 2 would entail, and whether it will ultimately be released. The only thing that Pilestedt has confirmed is that a roguelite prototype exists. Everything else is speculation for now.

The Helldivers 2 dev team recently disclosed that it's taking a break from the content roadmap to focus on fixing the various critical bugs that have popped up. To that end, director Mikael Eriksson announced that Helldivers 2 will be releasing patches every two weeks in the hope that this will allow the team to resume work on the content roadmap soon.

In September, Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani revealed that there are no plans for Helldivers 3. Instead, the team hopes to keep Helldivers 2 going for several years to come. Jorjani is also untroubled by reports that Helldivers movie director Justin Lin doesn't play the games. Instead, Joriani encouraged fans to "let Justin Lin cook" while they wait for updates about what he plans to put in the movie.
