Here's How To Get A Free Borderlands 4 Gun Skin

Borderlands 4's launch is coming fast, and those who want to be dressed for the occasion can score a free gun skin by signing up for a Gearbox Shift account.

The Hazard Pay weapon skin is available for anyone with a Shift account, including existing users or those signing up for the first time. To claim the skin, players will need to create an account (or log in to an existing one) and sign up to receive digital newsletters and marketing materials.

Players will need to link their Shift account to their Borderlands 4 platform of choice, after which logging in to that Shift account in-game should reward the skin (though Gearbox notes players should allow for "up to a week" to receive in-game items). The free skin offer is valid until the end of the year, December 31.

Gearbox states players should keep an eye out for additional Shift codes within Borderlands-related emails that can be redeemed for more rewards.

Borderlands 4 releases on September 12, and will support cross-play between platforms but not cross-progression. According to Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, a day-one patch for Borderlands 4 will improve the looter shooter's performance.

Pitchford's statement that the patch "does a lot" for performance came in response to a Destructoid preview that raised concerns about how the game ran on PC. Some of those issues stemmed from a failing power supply unit, with the writer of the preview having since stated that the majority of graphical issues they experienced have since been resolved.

Gearbox has already outlined its 2025 to early 2026 Borderlands 4 roadmap, featuring new events and DLC packs in the coming months and a major expansion that will include new zones, story missions, and an additional Vault Hunter set to arrive early next year.
