Hollow Knight: Silksong Again Missing From Nintendo Direct

Once again, Hollow Knight: Silksong was noticeably absent from the latest Nintendo Direct on Thursday. While nothing was confirmed ahead of the event, many fans were hopeful that this would finally be the moment for a long-awaited update. Any sort of new developments since its announcement in 2019 have been lean at best.

After the last delay, it seems at this point that Team Cherry is choosing to remain silent until the game is fully ready for release or, at the very least, until it has something substantial to share. While that level of secrecy is understandable, it does leave a vacuum that naturally fuels speculation and rumors--despite Microsoft insisting the game is coming out this year.

What we do know is that, unlike in the first Hollow Knight, Silksong follows Hornet as she begins deep underground in Pharloom and climbs toward the Citadel at its peak. Pharloom appears more industrialized than Hallownest, but Hornet's reason for being there--and whether Pharloom connects to Hallownest--remains unclear. What is clear is her desire to escape.

Silksong was originally penned for the first half of 2023. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry marketing and publishing representative Matthew Griffin announced that development was "still continuing" and that the game would be delayed. We finally got some footage last month that was part of a sizzle reel for the Xbox Ally.

Speaking of, European players will get the opportunity to play it during next month's Gamescom. Xbox released its lineup for games it will be showing off this year, including the demo for Hollow Knight: Silksong. The question now is, "Was this worth the wait"?
