How Elden Ring Nightreign's Shifting Earth Events Work

Shifting Earth events are a crucial feature in Elden Ring Nightreign, as the conditions imposed, as well as your party's drive to get close to them, can make or break a match if you're not careful.

If you're confused by the ominous messages on screen when you boot up the game and enter the Roundtable Hold--or the sudden environmental changes on a map--don't worry. This guide covers how Shifting Earth events work and what to expect from their presence.

What is a Shifting Earth event in Elden Ring Nightreign?

In Elden Ring Nightreign, you might spot a notification saying that the earth has shifted. Shifting Earth events are temporary changes to the Limveld map that add entirely new areas. They have a specific theme, which can involve puzzles and special enemies. Getting through these emerging regions can be hard, especially if you're trying to tackle them on the first day of an expedition, but the rewards are quite rare, which makes it worth the effort.

You are free to ignore Shifting Earth events, so long as the Night's Tide doesn't close in their corresponding areas (I'm looking at you, Mountaintop). Moreover, you can manually deactivate an ongoing event by using the Pass Time option in the Waiting Room inside the Roundtable Hold. Even without your input, they'll become inactive on their own after a few expeditions, and they're also suspended when you enter the Realm of Remembrance.

Elden Ring Nightrein Shifting Earth events list

If you don't mind spoilers, below are all of the Elden Ring Nightreign Shifting Earth events available at launch, and the rewards for completing them (doing so usually involves defeating a boss):

  • The Crater: Did anyone say lava? All enemies here are, as you might have guessed, are fueled by fire resistance and attacks. You'll be rewarded with a special smithing table that enables you to upgrade a single armament to legendary rarity while removing its minimum level requirement.
  • The Mountaintop: The mandatory ice area. Enemies here are weak to fire, and are prone to use both frostbite and magic. The reward is a protection buff against frostbite, and a damage bonus against dragons.
  • Rotted Woods: For fans of the scarlet rot condition. This element is a common attack from enemies in the area, and you'll also passively build up on it as you explore. There are luminescent red flowers around trees that can remove the stat debuff--if you get to them on time, that is. This Shifting Earth event has a fort with a treasure map that leads to a massive giant flower. In it, you'll find a passive trait that grants complete immunity to scarlet rot.
  • Noklateo, the Shrouded City: Probably the most challenging of the bunch. This city hosts enemies that utilize physical and magic attacks, and tasks you with navigating a labyrinthine layout as you make progress toward the deepest part of the ruins. It sounds like a tall order, but the reward is tempting, to say the least: You'll gain a passive trait that allows your character to rise one time from defeat.
