How To Find And Unlock Rise Tower Crests In Elden Ring Nightreign

Unlocking Elden Ring Nightreign's rise towers requires you to find a crest, but Nightreign isn't in a hurry to show you what those crests look like or how to break them. It's worth fitting at least one rise into your expeditions when you can, though. Unlocking their barrier gives you easy, boss-free access to a potentially rare armament for your collection.

Our Elden Ring Nightreign crest guide explains how to find and unlock the crest and what types of obstacles you might find along the way.

How to find and break a crest

The most common crest type is under a shrub or in the tower's small pond.
Rises are the towers marked on Nightreign's map, and each expedition's layout has at least two. These are usually near the edge of the map, though, so you'll want to access them early on the first or second night, before the rain circle starts to close in. (We've got a dedicated guide on where to go first in Nightreign to help you out.) Each rise's second floor is blocked by a magical obstruction with a message that tells you to find a crest.

Rise crests are light blue circles with esoteric symbols inside them, and they may be in one of a few locations somewhere around the rise. Rises near a pond almost always have their crest in the water next to them. Others are hidden under a shrub or tree, and there's a telltale sign that points them out. When a crest is under plants, an unseen wind will blow the plant in question. In other words, just look for the tree or shrub waving in the wind to find the crest.

To break a crest, stand inside it, and perform a dodge roll. You'll hear a shattering sound effect, and a message displays for all players that the rise has been unlocked.

Others are rather more obtuse, like this one, which appeared after a fake tree vanished.
In some less common cases, a rise won't have the usual kind of crest. Instead, their contraption is tied to a stone imp in front of the rise. Interact with the book the imp is holding to break the seal. In one case, there was a crest hidden in an animated tree trunk. Target the tree and attack it to make it vanish in a puff of smoke and unlock the rise.

In even rarer cases, a rise seemingly had no crest at all. Whether that's a bug or the crest is just exceptionally well-hidden in these instances, we aren't sure. Should you run across one that you can't open, just ignore it and prioritize spending your time elsewhere.

No entry until you find a crest.
What you find inside when you do unlock a rise is a scaffold and no stairs on the ground floor. Jump up the scaffold, head onto the balcony, and take stairs up to the tower's sole chamber. Inside, you'll find an item drop that may be common, but more frequently, you'll find at least one rare armament and perhaps even a legendary one. There's no rune reward, but given how quickly you can unlock a rise and access its reward, it's worth taking an extra minute or two to grab it, just in case you end up with something useful for your current build.
