Pokemon Pokopia is a cozy sim filled with Pokemon and adventure. One of the early items in the game will help you search buried treasure for rarer items, but it's not very clear how to use it. In this guide, we'll explain how to get the Dowsing Machine and find fossils in Pokemon Pokopia.
Fossils are found by searching Buried Treasure blocks. These are the blocks with the golden light shining out of it, and it requires the use of your Rock Smash ability. Of course, Buried Treasure blocks don't guarantee you'll find a fossil. It might be some other rare item like a Human Relic or CD.
It's also worth noting that these Buried Treasure blocks are random and will be reset each day at the daily reset time.
To better your chances at finding Buried Treasure blocks, and hopefully some fossils, you'll want to use a Dowsing Machine.
You get the Dowsing Machine early on in your starting area of Withered Wastelands. This is done by building the habitat for Hitmonchan and speaking with the Pokemon after. Hitmonchan will ask you to explore a high location, and you'll want to do this and grab the Yellow Pokeball at the top. This will reward you with the Dowsing Machine.
Hitmonchan won't know what to do with this machine, but all you need to do is find a Pokemon with the search capability. Pidgey and Drilbur are two early options you can use. Ask the search-capable Pokemon to follow you, and equip the Dowsing Machine.
This machine will help your search-capable Pokemon find Buried Treasure blocks that might be deeper below the surface and out of sight.
Press A to use the machine, and watch for where your Pokemon goes. They'll give you instructions, such as telling you the treasure is "below here" or "above here."
Find the Buried Treasure block and hit it with your Rock Smash ability. This will reward you with a random rare item, and maybe it will be a fossil. The image above shows what it looks like when you find a fossil from a Buried Treasure block.
