How To Improve Switch 2 Battery Life

The Nintendo Switch 2 is packing a hefty collection of improvements over its predecessor, including better visuals, improved performance, and more. However, like the original Switch, Nintendo's follow-up console is a hybrid device, which means it can be detached from its dock and played in handheld mode whenever you want to take it on the go. As such, you'll need to monitor its battery to ensure you have enough juice to get through a gaming session on the go. Good news: We have a few tips to help you improve the battery life of your Switch 2, allowing you to play for longer.

How to improve Switch 2 battery life

While most of these are common-sense solutions to your problem, one of them involves utilizing a special feature that Switch 2 offers. It addresses your Switch 2's battery on a longer timeline rather than your next play session, so it's a bit different than the other tips here, but still helpful from a different angle.

It's also worth noting that the game you are playing may be more or less demanding of the Switch 2's battery, so don't be surprised if using even all of these tips still nets variable results when you're playing Switch 2.

Lower screen brightness

Lowering your Switch 2's screen brightness is one of the best ways that you can help conserve battery life while in handheld mode. Unless you're playing in direct sunlight, it's a good idea to aim for around 60-70% brightness. Turning on auto-brightness can also be a big help, as this will adjust your screen's brightness based on the lighting of your environment for improved efficiency.

Turn off rumble

Turning off the rumble feature can mode can have a noticeable effect on your Switch 2's battery life. And it makes sense why, as this feature uses a motor inside the Joy-Cons to simulate things like impacts and changes in in-game environments, both of which are common in games.

Turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

If you're playing your Switch 2 in a situation where Wi-Fi and Bluetooth aren't required, you can disable both of them to keep the console from scanning for connections in the background--which can eat through your battery more than you'd think. One quick way to do this is to simply turn on Airplane Mode, which automatically disables Wi-Fi and Bluetooth at the same time. Just remember to turn off Airplane Mode when you're ready to go back online.

Turn the sound down

If you don't absolutely need to hear the game you're playing, you can always turn the volume all the way down to reduce battery drain caused by the Switch 2's speakers. It's a rather inconvenient option, but it can save you enough battery to enjoy a few more minutes of playtime, so it's worth it in a pinch.

Toggle this special Switch 2 feature

By toggling on the "Stop Charging Around 90%" setting, your Switch 2 will do exactly that, which helps to reduce battery deterioration over time. Though it reduces your immediate playtime a little by keeping your battery at 90%, this setting can dramatically improve your battery's long-term health, ensuring you continue to get plenty of playtime years into your console's life.

Nintendo promises between 2 and 6.5 hours of battery life on the Switch 2, so maybe these tips will help you land on the upper end of that range. Here's to hoping!
