How To Unlock Rainbow Road In Mario Kart World

The Mario Kart franchise always finds exciting ways to impress fans with each installment, and Mario Kart World is no exception. But it's also a series built on tradition, so you wouldn't start up a Mario Kart game without assuming you'll get to race on Rainbow Road, right?

Rainbow Road is one of the series' most-beloved tracks, with each iteration bringing a fresh take on the winding path in the sky. Mario Kart World is no different with the track returning, and it offers some of the most challenging racing in the entire game. But if you want to race on this colorful track, you'll need to unlock it first. Here's how to unlock Rainbow Road in Mario Kart World.

How to unlock Rainbow Road in Mario Kart World

Unlocking Rainbow Road will require you to do quite a bit of racing first. As a matter of fact, this track is the final race within the Special Cup, which can only be unlocked by completing every other cup in the game's Grand Prix mode.

There are seven cups to complete before the Special Cup will unlock, each including four tracks to race through. Here are all eight cups:

  • Mushroom Cup
  • Flower Cup
  • Star Cup
  • Shell Cup
  • Banana Cup
  • Leaf Cup
  • Lightning Cup
  • Special Cup (hidden)

The good news is that you don't need to win the previous seven cups to unlock the Special Cup. Instead, you simply need to play through each of them in full. So, whether you place at the top of the board or the bottom, wrapping up the 28 preceding races will allow you to finally dive into the Special Cup.

Once you've unlocked the Special Cup, you can access it just as you would any other. You'll then just need to race through the cup's first three tracks--Acorn Heights, Mario Circuit, and Peach Stadium--to finally reach Rainbow Road.
