Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann has discussed the casting of Tony Dalton in the developer's new game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. This story contains spoilers for HBO's The Last of Us.
In the sixth episode of The Last of Us Season 2, we get a flashback showing Joel's abusive father, and he's played by Better Call Saul actor Tony Dalton. Druckmann told Entertainment Weekly that he was impressed with Dalton's performance in his one scene, so much so that he offered Dalton a role in Intergalactic without an audition or anything.
"He immediately came to mind, and I just offered it to him on the spot," Druckmann said.
Dalton is not the only actor from The Last of Us that's going to appear in Intergalactic, as Nora actor Tati Gabrielle is playing the game's lead character, Jordan A. Mun. She's been working with Druckmann to prepare herself for a wave of hate and abuse.
In addition to Dalton and Gabrielle, Intergalactic features Marvel actor Kumail Nanjiani, as well as The Last of Us: Part II co-writer Halley Gross in an acting role.
Intergalactic is Naughty Dog's first new IP in a decade. It's been in development since 2020 and more than 250 people at Naughty Dog alone have worked on it over the years, in addition to external development support. Druckmann is co-directing.
Intergalactic will be scored by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails fame. As for when it will be released, no one should expect to play the game until 2027 at the soonest.
In addition to Intergalactic, Naughty Dog is working on at least one other game, which Druckmann is also involved with.
