Lies Of P Expansion Has A Creepy Zoo With Mutant Animals

Lies of P's first expansion, Overture releases this summer, and the new content is looking great. GameSpot's Tamoor Hussain played a demo of the upcoming expansion, including a spooky new zoo level filled with mutant animals, and a preview of the new boss rush mode.

Tamoor compares Overture to the Bloodborne expansion Old Hunters--not so much because of the content of the expansion, but because the developers now seem confident enough with the game to get creative with it. From what he played in the demo, Tamoor says that Overture shows a level of creativity above what is present in the base game--and it's also harder than anything in the base game.

The Overture demo featured a zoo-like level filled with "weird and freaky" versions of animals you might find in a regular zoo, including gorillas, kangaroos, wolf-like creatures, and a horrifying-looking giraffe. You can check out plenty of footage of the new level in the video, as well as some of the mutated monsters that populate it.

Tamoor also discusses Overture's new boss rush mode--though no footage of it is available so far--which can be played in two different ways. The first allows you to pick a specific boss to fight through, with five levels of difficulty available. The first three levels are unlocked by default, while the fourth and fifth can only be played if you beat it at the previous difficulty level. Tamoor compares the boss rush mode to the one in Sekiro, where the bosses are a little different from their regular versions as you progress through the levels.

The second option for the boss rush is more like a gauntlet, where you have a limit on your health as you play through a set playlist of bosses. You can see more from the demo in the video above, including some of the unique new weapons that are coming in Lies of P: Overture.

As the first major expansion for Lies of P, Overture will be shaking things up a bit--including adding some easier difficulty modes for those who find the souls-like's base difficulty too intimidating. The expansion content will take around 20 hours, and chronologically is intended to take place in the middle of the base game, not at the end.
