New PS5 Beta Update Adds Adaptive Charging, Remote Play Settings, And More 3D Audio Options

Sony is starting to roll out a new beta update for the PS5, which includes new features such as personalized 3D audio profiles, adaptive controller charging, and the ability to restrict individual Remote Play access.

Those who own the Pulse Elite wireless headset or the Pulse Explore wireless earbuds will be able to run sound-quality tests to create their own audio profile. Personalized 3D audio profiles could have many benefits, such as potentially helping players better sense the positions of characters in a game.

The beta will also now let players limit which users have access to the console's Remote Play feature. For example, if someone comes over and signs on to your PS5 with their account, you can change who can continue to have access to your console using Remote Play when they leave.

While those features are available to all PS5 owners, the beta's new adaptive charging feature is only available for those with the latest PS5 slim model. The feature applies to DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers, as well as PSVR 2 Sense and Access controllers. When the console is in rest mode, adaptive charging adjusts the length of time that power is supplied to the controllers based on their battery level, saving energy.

Sony continually updates the PS5 console with new features, with the last beta being in March, which improved the DualSense's mic and speaker and introduced new screen-share interactions. There have also been rumors going around about a possible PS5 Pro, but Sony has not officially confirmed or announced it.
