New Stranger Things VR Experience Coming Later This Year

Ahead of the fifth and final season of Stranger Things later this year, developer Sandbox VR has announced a new tie-in virtual experience for the popular Netflix show. Similar to its previous projects--Squid Game Virtuals and Rebel Moon: The Descent-- Stranger Things: Catalyst will be a location-based virtual reality game where players will gear up alongside their friends to face the supernatural threats plaguing the small town of Hawkins, Indiana.

Several iconic locations from the series have been recreated in VR, and players will be able to wield unique abilities against terrifying creatures that have escaped from the Upside Down dimension. Sandbox VR Founder and CEO, Steve Zhao says that this game will allow Stranger Things fans to "physically step into the story they've watched unfold over the past seasons" when they start playing. Sandbox VR's games also incorporate the use of haptic feedback vests, adding another layer of immersion to their experiences. This isn't the first time that we've seen a Stranger Things game either, as a standalone VR title was released back in 2017 for PS4.

While you'll need to visit one of the Sandbox VR locations to play Stranger Things: Catalyst--the game will arrive around the November release of Stranger Things season five--another licensed property is coming to home VR headsets in the future. Marvel's merc with a mouth, Deadpool, is getting a brand-new game for Meta Quest 3 and 3S later this year, and it'll see players journey to Mojoworld to take on classic X-men villains.

Actor Neil Patrick Harris--who previously voiced Spider-Man in other Marvel projects--brings the regenerating degenerate to life, and Deadpool's live-action actor Ryan Reynolds had the perfect response to the news.
