Next Mass Effect Game May Not Release Until 2029 - Report

The next game in the Mass Effect series may not be released for a while. Despite BioWare showing a teaser clip earlier this week for N7 Day, the game is reportedly nowhere near ready.

According to Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb, the next Mass Effect game has a similar development timeline to Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. It was announced in 2018 and it could come out in 2024 at the earliest. With a six-year development cycle, that would mean the next Mass Effect game may not be released until 2028 or 2029.

This year's N7 Day teaser video showed a mysterious masked character wearing N7 colors just walking. There really wasn't anything meaningful about it, but BioWare's Mike Gamble posted a statement celebrating N7 Day, which is filled with binary code.

BioWare also confirmed in an email to GameSpot that the next Mass Effect is still in pre-production. It was announced back in 2021, but it looks like we won't see it anytime soon. BioWare recently laid off unionized QA testers who were working on the upcoming Dragon: Age Dreadwolf. Earlier this week, the QA testers picketed outside of the BioWare Edmonton office on N7 Day and are currently suing over severance packages.
