Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Games Will Have All Content On Their Game Cards

Nintendo has cleared up some confusion surrounding the physical versions of Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games: The original game and its Switch 2 upgrades will all be on the same Game Card.

"Physical versions of Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games will include the original Nintendo Switch game and its upgrade pack all on the same game card (i.e. they are exclusively Nintendo Switch 2 game cards, with no download code)," Nintendo told Vooks. "Alternatively, some publishers may release Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games as download codes in physical packaging, with no game card."

Kirby and the Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition comes with Switch 2 exclusive content called Star-Cross World. Nintendo's statement confirms Star-Crossed World will be included on the Switch 2 Game Card.
Nintendo unveiled this special type of enhanced Nintendo Switch game during the Switch 2 Direct last week. Several released and upcoming Nintendo Switch titles have "upgrade packs" that let players access special enhancements on Switch 2. That can come in the form of performance improvements and brand-new content. That said, some people were confused about whether or not physical versions of these Nintendo Switch 2 Edition titles would come with a Switch cartridge and code for the upgrade pack, especially when you consider that some Switch 2 physical games will simply come with Game-Key Cards that enable someone to download the game.

As of today, April 10, Nintendo has confirmed that Super Mario Party Jamboree, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, and Pokemon Legends: Z-A will all be getting Nintendo Switch 2 Edition published by Nintendo. Its statement affirms that you don't have to worry about being locked out of enhancements if you buy physical.

Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will be the first Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games to be released, with their standalone upgrades priced at $10. They come out alongside the system on June 5, and are a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription benefit for players who already own both games. Some other Switch games will get Switch 2 enhancements even though Nintendo Switch 2 Editions aren't confirmed at this time.
