Octopath Traveler 0 Revealed And It Already Has A Release Date

As part of the July Nintendo Direct, Square Enix announced Octopath Traveler 0. The newest entry in the HD-2D series launches for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4. The game was revealed during the Nintendo Direct, but it is also coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.

It's called Octopath Traveler 0 because players "start from zero" and go on a quest for "restoration and retribution." Along the way, players will "confront powerful villains and rebuild your hometown."

"Octopath Traveler 0 is an expansive RPG that offers a fresh and exciting take on this acclaimed franchise," reads a line from the game's description. "The game tells a gripping story of restoration and retribution, set across the realm of Orsterra. Our tale begins in the idyllic town of Wishvale in the verdant Woodlands region--although it's not peaceful for long. Due to an… unfortunate event we won't ruin here, the charming settlement is completely destroyed."

Players will create and customize their own character, with players able to select the appearance, voice, motion, and favorite food. The game has more than 30 characters to recruit.

The original Octopath Traveler came out in 2018 for Switch before leaping to PC in 2019, Stadia in 2020, Xbox in 2021, and then PlayStation in 2024. Octopath Traveler II was released in 2023.

The July Nintendo Direct included other announcements, including Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection and Once Upon a Katamari, along with details about the Switch versions of Madden 26, Apex Legends, and Just Dance 2026, among others.
