Peak Dev Says Players Pirating It Is Better Than Playing "Microtransaction-Riddled" Roblox Imitator

When a video game achieves viral popularity, you can almost guarantee that it'll receive some kind of clone. The latest hit game to be subjected to such a thing is the co-op comedy climbing game Peak, which has continued to do very well for itself since it launched in June. This imitation comes in the form of Cliff, a Roblox game that wears its influence on its sleeve--the game's description literally cites Peak as a source of inspiration.

This hasn't gone unnoticed by co-developer Aggro Crab, sharing a post on X that reads, "tbh would rather you pirate our game than play this microtransaction-riddled Roblox slop ripoff." The other developer of Peak, Landfall Games, quoted this with a simple "Cosigned."

For some context on the microtransactions, there are different items you can get in Cliff, including a climbing pickaxe that reduces your stamina usage for 200 Roblox. According to this calculator, that's about $2.50 in actual money. Peak itself only costs $8, and has zero microtransactions.

In any case, Peak itself received an update last week described as "totally normal" that added in cannibalism. Understandably, this update might not be for everyone, so another quick patch was released that lets you turn cannibalism off--it is turned on by default though, so if you don't wish to see your friends as a delicious rotisserie chicken, you'll need to head into your settings to turn it off.
