Phasmophobia Will Finally Haunt Players With Its 1.0 Launch This Year

Phasmophobia is set to have its scariest year yet, with the game's 1.0 update slated to arrive in 2026 alongside new maps, a major overhaul of character models and animations, a Switch 2 release, and more "spooktacular surprises."

As revealed in developer Kinetic Games 2026 Phasmophobia roadmap, the 1.0 update will feature what the developer had previously described as "Horror 2.0"--a collection of major changes to the core ghost-hunting part of the game and that is now included as part of the 1.0 update. Those changes range from new ghost models and visuals to additional ghost events and hallucinations.

2026 roadmap
The roadmap is unfortunately lacking when it comes to specific dates or release windows. Kinetic Games didn't state when the 1.0 update will be arriving, but it did announce another major update is set to be released in the first quarter of the year--the player-character update. After the update, players will be able to customize their hunter with free cosmetics, and the game's character models themselves will be improved with new animations.

First announced during last year's The Game Awards, a Switch 2 version of Phasmophobia is on the way, though when, exactly, that's happening isn't yet known. A Unity 6 and network update for all versions of the game will also arrive this year--one that will mean a "smoother gameplay experience for players," according to Kinetic.

Outside of those major updates, there's still more to expect from Phasmophobia in the year ahead. Two maps, Tanglewood and Willow Street, will be revamped, with Kinetic teasing a "mystery lurking in the shadows of 6 Tanglewood Drive waiting to be uncovered." There will also be a new map and a one-time event, along with returning seasonal events like Cursed Hollow, Crimson Eye, and Winter's Jest.

"This year is set to be a big one for Phasmophobia, and we are so excited for our 1.0 launch, which will be one of the biggest moments since we released the game," Kinetic Games CEO and game director Daniel Knight said in a press release. "We are constantly working on creating a truly immersive experience for ghost hunters, and have been developing the game with this in mind."

Phasmophobia was originally released via Steam Early Access in 2020, with console versions arriving on PlayStation and Xbox in 2024. The ghost-hunting investigation simulator has only improved in the years since, and is currently one of the best horror games on Steam and best co-op games on the market. Its latest map, Nell's Diner, was added last November. For those who can't get enough of the Phasmophobia universe, a Phasmophobia movie is also in the works.
