Pokemon TCG Pocket's next expansion will take players to Pokemon Sun and Moon's Alola region with its new Celestial Guardians set.
There will be more than 200 new cards in the set for the free-to-play mobile game, including EX versions of Sun and Moon's Legendary Pokemon mascots Sogaleo and Lunala. Sun and Moon starters--the grass owl Rowlet, the fire cat Litten, and the water seal Popplio--are also being added as part of the set.
In sync with its Alola region theme, Celestial Guardians will also be unique Alolan versions of cards like Meowth, Raichu, Vulpix, and Marowak for players to collect. Trainer cards coming as part of the set include the introduction of Rare Candy and the Torom Dex, as well as Supporter cards for Sun and Moon's Trial Captains Ilima, Lana, Kiawe, Acerola, Mallow, Sophocles, and Lillie.
Celestial Guardians will launch on April 29 at 11 PM PT / April 30 at 2 AM ET.
But that's not all that's new coming to Pokemon TCG Pocket. A half-year anniversary event will kick off at the same time, with players able to earn new promo cards from solo battles that include a full-art version of Rayquaza EX. Other goodies, like new coins and playmats, will also be available for the six-month anniversary celebration.
There's been no shortage of new content for the popular mobile version of the Pokemon card game, which The Pokemon Company announced had reached 100 million downloads in February. Just last month it introduced its Shining Revelry expansion, introducing Shiny Pokemon into the game for the first time.
In March, the game's developers, Creatures Inc. and DeNA, announced it would be overhauling Pokemon TCG Pocket's unpopular card-trade system just a few months after it was introduced. Trade tokens will be removed from the game by this fall, and players will instead use Shinedust (currently used to upgrade cards visually) to trade. The developers are looking to increase the amount of Shinedust players can earn in order to accommodate its new role, and will additionally be updating the game's card-trading functionality to make it easier to share which cards players wish to trade for.
