Resident Evil 2 Director Says Resident Evil Requiem Leakers Should Be "Cursed To Never Be Able To Play Games Again"

Resident Evil 2 director Hideki Kamiya has shared his thoughts on the recent Resident Evil Requiem leaks that have seen spoilers spread like wildfire on social media ahead of the game's launch, calling it "a detestable act" that hurts the feelings of the creators.

The next mainline Resident Evil game doesn't officially release until later this week; however, early physical copies have been in the hands of some players for more than a week at this point, and some have been sharing spoilers online.

Last week, Capcom released a statement regarding the leaks and asked players not to share any details online before Requiem's launch, stating that its legal department will issue takedown notices to those who violate its request.

Now, the director of Resident Evil 2 has addressed the leaks as well, suggesting in a recent X post that those sharing leaks are destroying the happiness of others and that they deserve "a thousand deaths."

It's worth noting that Hideki Kamiya's post has been machine translated, and some nuance may be missing from his message, although the director is known for speaking his mind on topics he cares about.

"I'm sure the final developments of [Resident Evil 2] were also exposed in a weekly photo magazine…" Kamiya said (via IGN). "For your own selfish satisfaction, you trample on the feelings of the users who were looking forward to the game, as well as the feelings of the creators who put all their effort into making it.

"It's a despicable act that destroys the happiness of everyone, and deserves a thousand deaths... May you be cursed to never be able to play games again..."

Capcom was also pretty strict with its opinion on leaks in its statement last week, reiterating that spoilers constitute copyright infringement.

"A request from Capcom to the community. Please don't post or share pre-release leaks and spoilers for Resident Evil Requiem," the studio's full statement reads. "We really want everyone to enjoy the game's story and experience as much as possible. Our legal department will continue to issue takedowns and deletion notices for leaks in order to preserve your day-one experience.

"It's not long now until the game is out, so we look forward to seeing all your reactions after release!"
