Metal Gear protagonist and stealth-action game icon Solid Snake is making his Rainbow Six Siege debut very soon for one of the most obvious crossovers in video game history. The official announcement came shortly after leakers teased the upcoming crossover.
Rainbow Six Siege leaker Shiny claimed in an X post that a Metal Gear Solid collaboration will debut in Siege's Year 11, Season 1, saying that the event is "not just a skin collaboration" and teased that it includes a new operator. Insider Gaming corroborated the leak, reporting that Solid Snake will indeed be added as an operator when the next season begins in March.
Ubisoft later confirmed the news, teasing a February 15 Roadmap Reveal event that will shed more light.
This is far from the first crossover event that Snake has participated in, famously joining the Super Smash Bros. series as a fighter, and like many other video game characters, he's a skin in Fortnite. Rainbow Six Siege isn't shy from wacky crossovers, adding characters from The Boys last year.
When Snake does indeed become part of the Siege roster, he'll be in a video game with fellow stealth-game legend Sam Fisher for the first time in history. The Splinter Cell star was added to Siege in 2020 as "Zero." While both characters have made cheeky references to each other in their respective franchises, the two have never faced off directly before.
Every operator in Rainbow Six Siege has their own distinct gear and abilities, and there's a wealth of source material that could inspire Snake's kit. It'd be hilarious to see Snake crawling around in the cardboard box in an intense Siege match, though the sight might stick out significantly.
Rainbow Six Siege, now technically branded "Rainbow Six Siege X" after a massive update, had a rough holiday, suffering from a hack that resulted in Ubisoft compensating players with XP and in-game rewards.
