Sonic Generations Will Still Be Available After Sonic X Shadow Generations Debuts

It's become all too common for video game companies to delist some of their older titles once a remaster or a remake hits the market. Even Sega isn't immune from that, as the company still plans to remove the original Sonic Generations before the remaster is released as part of Sonic x Shadow Generations. But that doesn't mean the first version of Sonic Generations will be going away for good.

Via the official Sonic the Hedgehog account on X, Sega has announced that Sonic Generations will be delisted as a standalone title on September 9. However, in the name of preserving the game in its original form, it will still be available in bundles on Stream and Xbox. Gamers who already own Sonic Generations will still be able download the title as well.

Therefore, Sonic Generations will still be available via bundles of other iconic Sonic titles on Steam and Xbox. Existing owners of the title will still be able to download and play, as well. Lastly, we are happy to confirm that mods on the Steam version will NOT be affected!

Old school gamers also have the option of picking up Sonic Generations for the Xbox 360, which is backwards compatible on Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Amazon is currently selling new copies of Sonic Generations for Xbox 360 for only $23, which isn't a bad price for a game soon to be much harder to find.

As for Sonic x Shadow Generations, the remaster of the first game is included alongside a new title, Shadow Generations, and the two titles take place concurrently with each other. Sega will release Sonic x Shadow Generations on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC on October 25.
