Splitgate 2 Beta Finally Ending As Full Launch Nears In December

Splitgate 2 is finally getting out of its long beta phase. The developers confirmed that the beta will end on December 4, when the servers will shut down so they can prepare everything for the full launch later that month. When this happens, the Beta Season, all active battle passes, and everyone's seasonal ranks will come to an end.

"Since launching the beta in May, this game has majorly transformed," the team said about how much the game has changed. "We started with factions and abilities, and we've rebuilt the entire foundation about what makes Splitgate special: portals, movement, and pure gameplay."

Splitgate's world is basically a futuristic sport where combat arenas are set up for high-tech portal battles. Players are dropped into zones with weapons scattered around, and the whole point is to outplay people using smart portal tricks, quick movement, and good aim. The gameplay feels like a mix of classic arena shooters and mind-bending portal tactics, where you can surprise enemies from almost any angle.

Splitgate 2 returned to beta because its rushed June 6 launch exposed major problems that the game simply wasn't ready to handle. There was also the colossal issue of aggressive monetization--highlighted by an $80 bundle quickly cut in half--and an apology in which the studio head blamed a former monetization lead, which only made matters worse. Since the studio had publicly criticized its competition before release, these flaws were judged even more harshly. 1047 Games acknowledged that Splitgate 2 needed far more work and pushed it back into beta to fix its systems and rebuild trust.

The team also said that going back to beta gave it the chance to rebuild the game from the ground up. Factions are gone, abilities are now power-ups, and classic modes like King of the Hill, Domination, and Team Deathmatch are back. With the beta, the developers also added new maps and weapons, reworked the menus, and refined numerous systems based on player feedback.
