Switch 2 Day-1 Update Out Now, Adds Many Critical Features

The Switch 2 launches on June 5, and it's already June 5 in parts of the world, so the system's all-important day-one update is out now.

This update is a big, important one, as it adds critical features like support for Nintendo Switch Online, GameChat, GameShare, and the eShop itself. The update also adds the ability to perform a system transfer from the original Switch and allows players to upload screenshots, among other things.

Everyone is prompted to download the 20.1.1 update when performing the Switch 2's initial setup.

People managed to get their hands on Switch 2 consoles last week, but the systems couldn't do much without the day-one update. The Switch 2 launches everywhere on June 5, and millions of consoles are expected to come online in the coming days as the system launches globally.

The Switch 2 is priced at $450, or $500 for a bundle that includes a copy of Mario Kart World. If you didn't secure a preorder, some retailers are offering new stock for midnight launches and first-day sales. You can visit GameSpot's Switch 2 preorder guide to help give yourself the best chance to get a console.
