The Finals Open Beta Kicks Off This Week, With Unlocked Rewards Carrying Forward To Launch

The Finals, the free-to-play shooter from developer Embark Studios, will kick off its open beta on October 26. It will be the game's first beta test supporting cross-platform play and cross-progression between current-gen consoles and PC.

Players will be able to test out the fast-paced shooter from ex-Battlefield devs for a little over a week, with the beta ending on November 5. New content making its debut in the open beta is the new Skyway Stadium map and a new game-mode, Bank-It. In this mode, four teams of three will duke it out in what Embark describes as a "casual-friendly, combat-focused mode." Other modes include both ranked and unranked Tournament, the casual-focused Quick Cash mode, and a practice range for players to test out weapons and gadgets.

A free, 16-tier Battle Pass will be there for players to progress through, with rewards earned during the beta carrying over to the game's full launch. The beta in total will feature 20 weapons, 26 gadgets, and nine unique abilities for players to experiment with.

A new trailer for the game and its beta announcement game as part of Xbox's recent Partner Preview livestream, highlighting The Finals' game-show aesthetic and its robust environmental destruction. In The Finals, teams of players compete to bank cash and prizes in fast-paced virtual arenas modeled off real locations, albeit with some gravity defying gadgets and over-the-top-weaponry. Slain opponents burst into piles of coins when defeated, and announcers provide colorful commentary as the battle rages between teams looking to bank their big score.

Embark is looking to build upon earlier beta tests by stress-testing the game's servers and infrastructure, as well as gather feedback on console performance and how The Finals plays when using a controller.

The Finals does not yet have a release date but will release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
