Todd Howard Reflects On Sixth Anniversary Of Elder Scrolls 6 Teaser: "That Has Been A While"

The Elder Scrolls 6 reveal teaser trailer is now six years old, with Bethesda Studios having revealed little else about the game since then. Todd Howard has acknowledged the extended timeline in a new interview, stopping to reflect on the teaser's anniversary.

Speaking in an interview with YouTuber MrMattyPlays, Howard mentioned the teaser's anniversary, and paused to reflect on the time that's passed since then. "It's the sixth anniversary of us releasing the teaser for Elder Scrolls 6, and so that did make me pause and say 'oh wow, that has been a while,'" Howard noted.

"Now that we're working on Elder Scrolls 6, we get to see it here in the studio, you do miss it," Howard said, calling back to an earlier part of the interview regarding the Fallout franchise where he had said he doesn't think it's necessarily a bad thing for fans to miss their favorite series. "[We] appreciate all of those thoughts and are with the fans on that. We're working hard on it and one day we'll have it for everybody."

Howard has previously questioned whether it was the best choice to announce Elder Scrolls 6 so early, saying "I probably would've announced it more casually." Former Bethesda developer Bruce Nesmith also weighed in on the question, saying the studio probably wouldn't have announced the game so early if it wasn't for fans with "pitchforks and torches" wanting to know if the next Elder Scrolls game was in development.

The announcement teaser for Elder Scrolls 6 was fairly basic, showing only a landscape superimposed with Bethesda's logo, and the Elder Scrolls VI title. Very little else has been revealed about the game in the years since, with the sequel's setting, subtitle, and plot all still a mystery. Elder Scrolls 6 isn't expected to release until 2026 at the earliest.
