Until Dawn Devs Were Reportedly Making A Blade Runner Game

This week, the film adaptation of Supermassive Games' signature title, Until Dawn, will hit theaters. The developer's most recent game, The Casting of Frank Stone, was released last year, and we're not sure what's next for the team. But according to a new report, Supermassive was working on an ambitious Blade Runner game that was canceled while still in development. And it sounds like it would have been very intriguing.

Via Insider Gaming, the game was called Blade Runner: Time To Live, a third-person action-adventure title that put players in control of a replicant named So-Lange. Unlike the vast majority of replicants, So-Lange has already outlived his expiration date and he works as a Blade Runner who hunts down rogue replicants.

The game would have been set in 2065 in New Zurich as So-Lange's attempt to retire a renegade replicant named Rev led to a betrayal that left the player-character in rough shape behind enemy lines.

Time To Live was intended to have a mixture of stealth, combat, exploration, and investigation. It was also meant to include "authentic, punchy, and poignant" dialogue exchanges between So-Lange and the characters he met in the game.

Insider Gaming's source indicates that Alcon Entertainment--the company that owns the rights to Blade Runner--canceled Time To Live late last year. However, a specific reason for that action wasn't shared. Just over a year ago, Supermassive laid off at least 90 employees.

Amazon Prime Video's Blade Runner TV series, Blade Runner 2099, began filming last year. Michelle Yeoh, Hunter Schafer, Katelyn Rose Downey, Lewis Gribben, Dimitri Abold, and Daniel Rigby are all regular cast members for the series. Story details are scarce, but it will take place 50 years after Blade Runner 2049, as the title suggests. For now, there's no word about whether any additional Blade Runner games are in development.
