Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Lets You And Your Friends Cross Chainswords--Or Join Them

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is undoubtedly the most-anticipated Warhammer game in development right now, so it was no surprise that it was given a sizable chunk of the Warhammer Skulls 2024 presentation. Multiplayer fans are in for a treat, as in addition to a new three-player cooperative mode, Space Marine 2 is bringing back PvP so you can prove who really loves the Emperor of Mankind the most.

The PvP offering is split across three game types--Annihilations, Seize Ground, and Capture & Control--with six-versus-six action pitting the Space Marines against the Chaos Space Marines. For those unfamiliar with 40,000 lore, the Chaos Space Marines are turncoats who opted to rebel against the Emperor in the name of Chaos, so there is no love lost here. Six different classes are available (and are also included in PvE co-op modes) so you can take on a variety of roles to best serve the Imperium, or destroy it.

Alongside PvP, a three-player co-op offering called Operations Mode will pit you and your friends up against the alien xenos causing all sorts of problems for mankind. As shown in a brief teaser trailer, you'll be emptying countless rounds of ammunition into the abominations, delivering powerful melee attacks with blades to literally cut them in two. And if you want to do it all in style, there's full customization on Space Marines for everything from their gauntlets to the color of their gear.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 arrives to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on September 9. Digital preorders are now available, joining the physical versions already available for preorder at retailers. The game was far from the only one shown at Warhammer Skulls, and we also got a first look at Mechanicus II.
