An update for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has gone live, adding a new PvE mission, weapon, cosmetic DLC, and various quality-of-life improvements to the game. Players will be able to head to Avarax in a new operation, where they'll be tasked with taking down a Trygon: a nasty creature that specializes in guerrilla tactics and can quickly burrow under defensive positions to harass its prey.
Fortunately, players will be able to field-test a new weapon, the Inferno Pistol, and developer Saber Interactive says that the free update will add Prestige Ranks and Prestige Rewards, reworked weapon perks, the ability to change the colour of cloth, tabards and hoods across all classes, and custom PvP lobbies where up to 12 players can group up.
If you own the Space Marine 2 season pass, the Trygon update also adds a new Space Wolves-themed champion skin for the Vanguard, three weapon skins--Chainsword, Bolt Carbine, and Thunder Hammer--and more than 50 unique cosmetics and colors.
Space Marine 2 was a big hit after it launched last year, and publisher Focus Interactive recently announced that a threequel is in development. Details on Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 remain slim for now--outside of a brief teaser of protagonist Captain Titus staring menacingly at some heretical rain--but Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch did mention that the studio aims to meet the "tremendous expectations" of the first sequel's massive fanbase.
Space Marine 2 has sold over four million copies to date, and more-substantial updates are on the way throughout 2025. Elsewhere in the Warhammer 40,000 galaxy, other games are also currently in development based on the popular tabletop wargaming IP. Fans can look forward to a digital collectible card game in the form of Warpforge, a vehicular combat game called Speed Freeks, and more turn-based tactics in a sequel to Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus.
