Well, This ESRB Description Sure Is A Wild Ride

ESRB rating descriptions are often a way to glean tidbits of information about games that are yet to be released, as they will generally list aspects that explain why a particular title has received a certain age rating. Occasionally that means a small bit of story is revealed earlier than it should have. Other times, it results in sentences that are just straight-up confusing, which is very much the case for Baby Steps' ESRB rating. Potential spoilers ahead for Baby Steps!

If you've not heard of Baby Steps, it's the next game from QWOP and Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy designer Bennett Foddy. Published by Devolver Digital, the game puts you in the position of Nate, an "unemployed failson with nothing going for him," who discovers the ability to walk. He's not very good at it though, so much like Foddy's other games, it's all about controlling a character who doesn't move as you'd typically expect. It's definitely odd, but the game seemingly gets a lot odder.

Here's the ESRB rating description: "This is an adventure game in which players assume the role of a man transported to a mystical realm full of quirky and bizarre characters." Alright so far! "From a third-person perspective, players hike through different environments and interact with fantastical characters." Yep, no problem. "Some of these characters are depicted as human/donkey hybrids with exposed male genitalia." Come again?

It doesn't stop there though, as some bits of dialogue were shared too, like, "We've had some real perverts come through here," and "got breast milk." You also apparently see a donkey urinating at one point.

Whether this is the extent of the game's strangeness, we'll soon find out, as Baby Steps launches September 23 on PS5 and PC.
