Witcher 3 Adding A Big New Feature 10 Years After Launch

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt celebrates its 10th anniversary this month, and to mark the occasion, CD Projekt Red has announced that the RPG is getting a major new feature. Cross-platform mod support is coming to the game's PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S versions later this year. Mods have been available on PC for a long time, but this is the first time they're coming to console.

"For the first time, creating, sharing, and enjoying mods for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be easier and more accessible than ever," the developer said.

A FAQ about this has more details, like how this is a free service provided by mod.io. As such, players will need to have or create a mod.io account and link it to their CD Projekt Red account to use cross-platform mods, at least on console. Existing modding services on PC will remain supported. PC players will not need to use mod.io to upload or download mods for The Witcher 3.

"Many" mods will be available, but "due to specific content guidelines and selection criteria for each platform," not every PC mod will be available on console. CD Projekt Red said it will announce more details on The Witcher 3's new cross-platform mod program later this year.

"Thank you to all the teammates that made it possible! 10 years ago it was a dream, now it will become reality," CD Projekt's Phillip Weber said.

In other news, The Witcher 3 has surpassed 60 million copies sold. It was already one of the top 10 best-selling games of all time, and now it's climbing higher. The game has generated around $640 million USD in revenue.

CD Projekt Red is now working on The Witcher 4--which kicks off a new trilogy--as well as Cyberpunk 2.
