Five years after it was first announced, Saber Interactive's Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake has finally gotten an update--albeit a very predictable one. In a new interview, Saber chief creative officer Tim Willits offered a terse summary on the project's current status.
"Yes, it is still in development. That's all I can say," Willits said to IGN.
First revealed in 2021, details on the remake of the BioWare classic have essentially been nonexistent for the last couple of years, but reports have surfaced since then of a turbulent development cycle. Back in 2025, it was claimed that developer Aspyr had been removed from the project and that the studio behind the upcoming Hellraiser: Revival, Mad Head Games, was handed the reins to the remake. The same report also claimed that a potential remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 had been put on hold.
While work continues on Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars fans can also look forward to another game set in that era of the franchise, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic. Development on the new Star Wars game is being led by former KOTOR director Casey Hudson, and the spiritual successor to the classic single-player RPG is expected to arrive before the end of the decade.
Beyond that, other upcoming Star Wars projects include the turn-based tactics game Star Wars: Zero Company, a Star Wars Jedi threequel from Respawn Entertainment, and Star Wars: Galactic Racer. Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human developer Quantic Dream also announced Star Wars Eclipse in 2021, which might not be too far (far!) away and could launch in 2026.
