Following its reveal at The Game Awards on December 11, developer Remedy Entertainment announced that the Control sequel--now known as Control Resonant--will launch sometime this year. And that's all we know about that for now, because any other release date information you may see circulating online is pure speculation, according to the team's communications director.
Thomas Puha has been at Remedy Entertainment for almost 11 years, per his LinkedIn, serving as the Finnish studio's communications director the entire time. It's safe to assume he knows a thing or two about relaying important developer information to the masses, which is why he took to X on January 26 to reiterate that Control Resonant doesn't have a firm release date right now.
"Since some news are crediting us saying something, that we havent," Puha said in an X post. "Remedy has only ever communicated that the release window of Control Resonant is 2026. Anything else is speculation."
It's unclear exactly what Puha is responding to. A cursory glance at Google and X for "Control Resonant release date" doesn't pull any results for speculative release dates for the highly anticipated action-adventure sequel. And some users in his comments were throwing out "Q1" and "Q2" windows for the game's release. That said, the chatter must've been enough of a hubbub for Puha to underscore its lack of a definitive release date right now.
Control Resonant is the sequel to 2019's Control, Remedy Entertainment's critically acclaimed sci-fi action-adventure shooter. It follows Dylan Faden, Jesse Faden's sister and the protagonist of the first game, as he searches for her while stopping an otherworldly threat that escaped containment from downtown Manhattan's Federal Bureau of Control. Instead of guns, though, Control Resonant focuses heavily on melee combat this time around, with Dylan using a weapon called the "Aberrant" that can shapeshift into different armaments. Also different in the sequel is the fact that it's an "expansive, reality-warping playground of choice," with you being able to explore Manhattan in an "open-ended" way, according to the team's description of the game.
Control Resonant is slated to launch this year on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
