Battlefield 6 Is Doubling Down On Big Maps, With Much Larger Ones On The Way

Bigger maps are finally coming to Battlefield 6, with Season 3 set to introduce its largest map to date, followed by an even larger map in Season 4.

When Battlefield 6 first launched, one of the most common complaints was that the game lacked many of the large, vehicle-focused maps the franchise was known for. Battlefield Studios has since added a number of additional larger maps in the game's first two seasons, but it seems to have taken the feedback truly to heart starting in Season 3.

As revealed in Battlefield 6's 2026 roadmap, Season 3 will launch with Railway to Golmud, a reimagining of Battlefield 4's Golmud Railway map that will be the "biggest map in Battlefield 6 yet," according to executive producer Philippe Ducharme. This version of the map will be set in Tajikistan following the events of the game's campaign, and will be nearly four times the size of the game's current biggest map, Mirak Valley.

"We've heard your feedback about the kind of map experience you want in Battlefield loud and clear," Ducharme said.

Battlefield Studios is looking to keep the vision of the original Golmud Railway intact, but with updated visuals, more cover, and additional changes to the map to allow for both long-range engagements and close-quarter fights. The map will also feature a larger aerial space to give aircraft more room to maneuver, something the game's current big vehicle maps lack.

Not to be outdone, Season 4 will add an even larger, entirely brand-new map in the form of Tsuru Reef. This Pacific ocean-based map will be the biggest map in Battlefield 6 when it launches, and feature water-based vehicles and an aircraft carrier with an operational flight deck.

Both Season 3 and 4 will each receive one additional map. For Season 3, it will be a remake of Grand Bazaar from Battlefield 3, whereas Season 4 will add yet another remake of the franchise's iconic Wake Island map to go along with the season's naval warfare theme. Season 5 will introduce three maps for the first time, though Battlefield Studios is keeping that reveal for a future date while making clear fans shouldn't expect three maps per season to be a regular occurrence.

In addition to bigger maps, Battlefield Studios outlined a number of quality-of-life improvements and features coming to Battlefield 6 later this year. Those features include a proper server browser, ranked play for both Redsec and regular multiplayer, a platoon clan system, proximity chat, and reworks of the game's existing Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City maps.
