Battlefield 6 Season 5 will be the first season to add three new maps instead of two to EA's live-service shooter, but it doesn't sound like it will be the new standard going forward.
At least, not yet. Battlefield Studios recently outlined its 2026 plans, giving players an idea of what new content and features will be coming to Battlefield 6 throughout the year. In addition to several remakes of popular maps from previous Battlefield games coming as part of Season 3 and 4, as well as a server browser, Battlefield Studio's revealed Battlefield 6 Season 5 will actually add three, rather than two, new maps.
That's exciting news for fans, among whom more maps per season is a popular request and point of feedback. There is, however, a catch. When asked during a press Q&A whether players can expect more than two maps a season post-Season 5, Battlefield Studios executive producer Ryan McArthur said it was treating Season 5's third map more as a "holiday surprise" and not the new normal.
"Season 5, we treat that as sort of a holiday surprise for us," McArthur said. "It's that big moment as we head into our second year of live service, so we wanted to make sure that that season delivers something special. We still plan to stay with the current strategy we have, which is adapting our seasonal structure to meet the experiences we want our players to play."
McArthur's answer makes clear fans shouldn't expect three maps per season in 2027, but does leave enough wiggle room to still allow for more than two maps in future seasons. Where Season 5's maps will take players is still unknown, but Battlefield Studios said a teaser image on the roadmap, which can be seen below, does offer clues. The image shows the reflection of what could possibly be neon street signs in a muddy puddle, with bullet casings and equipment like a welding torch and demolition hammer littering the ground.
If there is one piece of feedback Battlefield Studios hears loud and clear, it's the desire for larger maps, with both Season 3 and 4 featuring the game's biggest maps to date. Season 3 will be adding remakes of two fan-favorite maps from Battlefield 3 and 4 in the form of Cairo Bazaar and Railway to Golmud.
In Season 4, Battlefield 6 will introduce naval warfare, bringing back the popular Wake Island as well as a new map, Tsuru Reef. Both Railway to Golmud and Tsuru Reef are said to be the biggest maps in Battlefield 6 to date, with Golmud stated as being nearly four times larger than the game's current largest map, Mirak Valley. Tsuru Reef is said to be even larger than Golmud, though much of it looks like it will consist of open water.
Other updates slated to come to Battlefield 6 this year include ranked play for Redsec and regular multiplayer, reworks for the game's already live New Sobek City and Blackwell Fields maps, and proximity chat.
