Battlefield 6's big new Season 2 update is out now, but it was originally expected to release sooner. The Season 2 delay "broke the pace" of the game's smooth and successful launch in October 2025, producer Phil Girette said in an interview.
"We launched Battlefield 6 and we were super happy to have had a smooth launch for once. And then going into Season 1, I think the key thing there because, [...] there were a lot of people spending a lot of time playing it, what kind of broke that pace is the extension we did of Season 1," Girette told TechRadar.
However, delaying Season 2 was necessary, he said, because the content simply was not ready for primetime and needed "further polish."
Following the launch of Battlefield 6 in October, the teams working on Battlefield 6 were also dealt the tough blow of losing top Battlefield boss Vince Zampella, who died in a car crash in December.
Also in the interview, Girette said the Season 2 update for Battlefield 6 is "really, really strong," and it's set up to be the "foundation going forward" for the shooter.
"This is the level we need to hit. We hope that the players think the same, but I think this is going to be the strongest season [yet]," he said.

Battlefield 6 had an enormous launch in 2025, selling more than 10 million copies and finishing the year as the best-selling game in the US, even outselling Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
