Chronicles: Medieval Is A "Medieval Sandbox" That Leans On Player Choice

Today, during Summer Game Fest Live with Geoff Keighley, Raw Power Games--a new Copenhagen-based studio featuring devs who previously worked on games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Grand Theft Auto--unveiled its first project. The game is called Chronicles: Medieval, and it is an action-RPG where each player's choice will create an experience "where no two stories are ever the same."

The announcement trailer shown at SGF Live--with voiceover provided by Tom Hardy--showed a cinematic scene alternating between a blacksmith preparing a sword, a soldier walking to the front of his army, and other scenes. Eventually, the soldier mounts his horse, raises his sword, and the army charges into battle as the trailer shifts from cinematics to actual gameplay.

Chronicles: Medieval
Chronicles: Medieval features an "immersive medieval sandbox" where players will create their own characters and venture into the world, which will be influenced by their decisions. Each player must choose one of three story paths--power, adventure, or fortune--for their character, after which they must balance diplomacy and outright conflict in order to progress.

Those conflicts will be fought in large-scale battles, where players can recruit and train troops, and then lead them into battle with full control over how their trained soldiers approach and attack the opposing side. Meanwhile, the player will be controlling their created character, who will be in the thick of things fighting alongside recruited troops.

Raw Power Games has also revealed that it will be fully supporting the modding community at launch, pledging that it will give players the "freedom, support, and technology" needed to create new content for the game.

While no specific release date was shared, Chronicles: Medieval is scheduled to launch in early access on PC via Steam in 2026.
