Crimson Desert Players Really Hate This One NPC

You come across a ton of NPCs in Crimson Desert. So many that fans have determined which ones are perfect to be besties with. But there's one NPC that almost every single player can't stand because they always mess things up whenever they come around.

Yann is one of Crimson Desert's major characters and is closely tied to the revival of the Greymanes, Kliff's faction that fell apart in the early parts of the game. As you seek to reestablish your brotherhood, you encounter and save Yann multiple times throughout the game's 60-hour-long campaign, primarily because he's the kind of drunk who shoots first and asks questions later. This gets him into all sorts of unnecessary and avoidable trouble, which is why most of the community hates dealing with him.

Scrolling through the game's official subreddit pulls up all sorts of threads decrying how "awful" and "grating" a character he is. The consensus is the same: There are too many quests involving him, most of which require that you either rescue him from some peril he found himself in (probably because of gambling, drinking, or both) or listen to him complain as you slowly follow him on horseback. He's giving that one friend you roll your eyes at whenever they show up, because they somehow always need saving.

Yann is the most unlikable and annoying side character that I've ever seen in a game.
I love Crimson Desert but how does he manage to ruin every cutscene with that kind of energy and always gets into trouble is beyond me, I wish I could block him😭 pic.twitter.com/F1GAJ3Vxva

The hate for Yann is so palpable that players want him either dead or outright removed from the game, labeling him a "disgrace" to the Greymanes and the most annoying character in Crimson Desert.

GameSpot content manager Ben Janca doesn't have great words for Yann, either, calling him "awful" when asked why he dislikes the character in Slack DMs.

"Almost every time I remember dealing with him, it's when I'm cleaning up a mess he made," Janca said. "He's real quick to jump to fighting and doesn't think first much. It gets to the point where you're just like, 'Whelp, Yann's back at it again,' and I have to go drag him out of whatever mess he's gotten into before we can continue."

It's not all bad for the dual-wielding Greymane. When Yann's in combat, he's fairly efficient, dispatching foes with ease like it's just another trip to the grocery store for him. The problem, though, is that when he's in combat and dispatching foes, he tends to just dip out, leaving you to clean up his mess. And then the cycle continues. It seems Crimson Desert players just don't have time for that.

Crimson Desert is one of the hottest games out right now, selling some 5 million copies since it launched on March 19 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Despite an AI controversy that should draw more scrutiny, players are loving their time in Pywell as they find their way into space, search for the best drip around, and watch NPCs live their lives--as long as that doesn't include Yann.
