For a decade, Dead by Daylight has let players into the world of the Entity as they faced original killers as well as some of the most evil monsters from film, TV shows, and video games. Now, Behaviour Interactive is calling on fans to help it complete a crowd-sourced Dead by Daylight chapter called The Grimoire.
As explained by senior creative director David Richard, players can visit Dead by Daylight's Grimoire site and cast their votes to decide the face of the game's new hero. Fans will also choose the outline of the new killer: a divine being from another world.
There's only a short voting period--it started today, January 23, and runs through 12 PM ET on Monday, January 26. Players previously helped define the new killer as a God-like being that laid waste to its own reality. That makes it sound more like a rival to the Entity, the force behind Dead by Daylight's story, rather than an ally. This currently unnamed murderer draws its powers from "hunting sinners and delivering punishment."
The new hero--who may be a man or a woman--is a spiritual scientist who is one of the few survivors from the killer's original world. This person wants to bring the nightmare to an end once and for all, which will be hard if the killer god can keep hopping worlds.
"Through the Grimoire, we're bringing players into our process in a way we've never done before," Richard said in a statement. "It's about opening the doors for both people looking to get into Dead by Daylight, as well as the incredible community that's been with us since the start, and taking them from players to co-creators. We want them to truly feel a sense of ownership and agency when it comes to shaping the characters and mechanics of an entirely new, original chapter."
The Grimoire chapter is still being developed, but a second Stranger Things-related chapter is set to debut on January 27. It's going to introduce new survivor characters Eleven and Dustin to the game, as they and the other Hawkins kids battle a new killer in Stranger Things villain Vecna.
