Expedition 33 Celebrates First Anniversary With Special Haircuts For The Main Characters

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was released one year ago today, and to mark the anniversary, developer Sandfall Interactive announced that the game has reached 8 million units sold and released a free game update that gives players the ability to get an "Anniversary haircut" for each playable character.

In addition to 8 million sales, Expedition 33 was praised by fans and won many awards, including taking home GameSpot's Game of the Year for 2025. In fact, Expedition 33 won more Game of the Year awards than any other game ever, surpassing Elden Ring's record.

As for the free update, players can access the new Anniversary haircut styles by purchasing them from Gestral merchants. Gustave's haircut is available from the merchant near Stone Wave Cliffs, while the haircuts for Verso, Maelle, Lune, Sciel, and Monoco can be found at the merchant near Grosse Tête. Regarding the 8 million sales, Expedition 33 has certainly reached more players than that since the game is also available on Xbox Game Pass.

Some of the other new statistics that Sandfall announced for Expedition 33 included the soundtrack being streamed more than 617 million times.

If you haven't played Expedition 33 yet, you can get it with Game Pass or at a 20% discount now on Steam, but only through April 27.

Sandfall also announced new Expedition 33 merchandise, including a high-end striped Breton shirt from Orcival and a red beret from Le Beret Francais, each featuring special styling to reflect Expedition 33.

"Since launch, we've been blown away by the way fans have reacted to our game," creative director Guillaume Broche said. "Every day has felt like a dream for us, and we owe to all our players a lifetime of thank you. You made this year unforgettable."

Expedition 33 was developed by Sandfall Interactive, and it was the studio's first game. Many are wondering what the studio will make next, and it could be Expedition 33 2, but that remains to be seen.
